Free My Disk is made by Albu Studio (Alexey Bulatnikov). The short version: the app collects no personal data, has no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. Everything it does happens on your Mac.

What the app does

Free My Disk scans well-known cache and build-output locations inside your home folder (for example Xcode DerivedData, simulator data, package-manager caches, ~/Library/Caches, ~/Library/Logs and the Trash), shows you their size, and deletes the ones you choose. The optional Free RAM feature asks macOS to release inactive memory. None of this information leaves your computer.

Data we collect

None. Free My Disk does not collect, store, or transmit personal information, usage statistics, file names, or file contents. The app does not include analytics or advertising SDKs.

Permissions

Home folder access. Free My Disk runs in the macOS App Sandbox. On first launch it asks you, through the standard system Open panel, to grant access to your home folder so it can scan and remove junk there. The grant is stored locally as a security-scoped bookmark and is used only for that purpose. You can revoke it at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders, or by deleting the app.
Network. The only network activity is Apple's App Store framework handling your subscription. The app makes no other network requests.

Purchases and subscriptions

Free My Disk Pro is an auto-renewable subscription sold through the Mac App Store and processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. Apple's handling of purchase data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy at apple.com/legal/privacy. You can manage or cancel the subscription in System Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.

Local settings

The app stores a few preferences on your Mac only: the mode you last used, whether your free clean and free RAM release have been used, and the home-folder permission described above. These never leave your device.

Children

Free My Disk is a utility with no accounts or communication features and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated effective date.

Common questions

The app asks for access to my home folder. Why?

Free My Disk runs inside the macOS App Sandbox, so it cannot see your files until you allow it. It asks once through the standard system Open panel and remembers your choice. Nothing is deleted until you press Free Up. You can revoke access at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders.

macOS shows several permission questions on first launch

Those are one-time macOS questions for the Desktop, Documents and Downloads folders and for browser and mail caches. Answer them once and they will not come back. If you declined one by mistake, turn it on again in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Is it safe? Can I lose my work?

Normal mode only removes caches and build products that macOS, Xcode and your package managers rebuild on their own. Anything that could cost you real work (Xcode Archives, simulator data, backups, installers, node_modules) is off by default, marked CAUTION, and only appears in Advanced mode where you switch it on yourself.

I don't use Xcode. Is the app still useful?

Yes. Xcode categories hide themselves when Xcode is not installed. Developer-tool caches, Electron app caches, browser caches, user caches, logs, installers and the Trash apply to everyone.

How does Free RAM work?

It asks macOS to release inactive memory held by apps you are not using. The live meter in the sidebar shows the before and after. Results vary from Mac to Mac; the button is safe to press as often as you like.

The window closed. How do I get it back?

Click the app icon in the Dock, choose Window › Free My Disk from the menu bar, or press ⇧⌘1.

Pro, purchases and refunds

Free My Disk Pro is sold through the Mac App Store and billed to your Apple Account. Apple handles all payments; we never see your card details.

Restore a purchase on a new Mac: open the Pro window (Free My Disk › Upgrade to Pro…) and click Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account.
Manage or cancel the yearly plan in System Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Lifetime Pro is a one-time purchase that never renews.
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Pro not recognised after paying? Quit and reopen the app, then use Restore Purchases. If it still shows as not active, email us with the receipt date and we will sort it out.
