Questions, answered.

Is it safe? Will I lose anything?

Normal mode only removes caches and build products that regenerate themselves. Anything that could cost you real work (Archives, simulator data, backups, installers, node_modules) is off by default, marked CAUTION, and only appears in Advanced mode.

Why does it ask for access to my home folder?

macOS keeps App Store apps out of your files until you say so. Free My Disk asks once, through the standard system panel, and stores that permission. Nothing is deleted until you press Free Up. You can revoke it any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

How does Free RAM work?

It asks macOS to release inactive memory held by apps you are not using, so the apps you are using get room to breathe. The live meter shows the before and after.

I don't use Xcode. Is it still useful?

Yes. Xcode categories simply hide themselves when Xcode is not installed. Developer-tool caches, Electron app caches, user caches, logs, installers and Trash still apply to everyone.

Does it send any data anywhere?

No. Free My Disk has no accounts, no analytics and no network calls other than the App Store itself. See the privacy policy.
